Sunday

unfortunately, the pc has been down these past couple of weeks, due to a virus infection and a blown psu. The PSU problem was easily rectified by fixing in a new PSU. The virus infection, Brontox actually, was not as simple.

Since the pc was reduced to a crawl, and there was no way i could run the indon brontox remover, I reformatted the PC. And installed Windows MCE. So far, I've not really got to try it out as there are still some driver problems. Most pressing of which is for the USB Wlan Adapter.

I've tried 2 different drivers, one being the latest version, yet the computer still fails to recognise the device. This is very odd. I didn't experience any difficulties at all when I first installed the device (before the virus and blown psu). Any suggestions people?

et tu brute?

I don't really like speculations and rumours, especially those in the forms of "special reports" usually posted at the very top section of Malaysia Today. However, this tale has become too juicy to just cast aside. It's worth reading for the drama alone. Just imagine if it turns out to truly be more than a work of (political) fiction...

Kota Sarang Semut

Just listened to a speech given by DSAI at a rally in Kota Sarang Semut , Kedah. I expect TG Nik Aziz will be speaking next. See WebRTV

on the muktamar

found this on malaysiakini (subscription required):
One has to praise the flexibility of PAS in adapting to Malaysian political reality and social development. In the 1982 election, 78 percent of PAS manifesto contents were about Islam. The leadership change from Malay nationalists to Islamists later that year marked the beginning of concerted efforts to reduce exclusiveness of its appeal. In the last election, PAS finally revived the old tradition of nominating women candidates. One year after the ascension of the ‘young moderate professionals’ headed by Ustaz Nasharuddin Mat Isa, this year’s muktamar, beginning today, will see another step forward - opening of the door to non-Muslims, a proposal coming from PAS spiritual adviser, Tok Guru Nik Aziz Nik Mat.
For those currently out of the loop, there is one burning issue at this years muktamar : the proposal of admitting non-muslim members into PAS. I give full support to this proposal, not just because it originated from the Mursyidul Am but because i believe in the completeness of the Islamic message, and hence struggle. The Quran is, after all, a guide for all of mankind, not just a guide for the muslims.

Furthermore the article goes on to suggest :
...PAS must change its lukewarm attitude to democracy and commit itself to push for Malaysia’s democratisation...If PAS is expecting democrats to vote intrinsically for its programme, rather than instrumentally, just to check Umno’s hegemony (if they would), it must make genuine efforts to democratise Malaysia.
and calls for greater efforts in promoting local democracies.

However, on the membership issue, I imagine some quarters would prefer an associate membership to be given to the non-muslims. An associate member does not have the right to vote. This does not sound very just.

On the other hand, there is also the ever present fear of being 'dhimmi'ed on the part of the non-muslims. This dialogue here, is very clear in defining what the term 'ahlul dhimmah' actually means.

the jemaah/ummah centric polemic

Ketika saya pernah ditanyakan oleh salah seorang siswa, "Ustaz ni jemaah JIM ke?". Saya segera membalas, "Tidak, saya ahli jemaah Muslimin". Dia bertanya, "Jemaah baru ke tu?". Saya katakan kepadanya, "Tidak, ia telah wujud semenjak zaman Rasulullah S.A.W lagi"

ummah centric seems to be the topic nowadays. First presented by Ustaz Mazlee Malik of UIA through his column in Majalah I, the debate seems to have spread far and wide. Now even the Mu'tamar is discussing (or more likely, dissing) it.

However to put things objectively, I do say that his ideas are, well, true. Muslims should get together and form a united front. And to say the proponents are agents of anything seems far-fetched to me. On the other hand, to do away with order and discipline won't do anyone any good. Each group I suppose have their own thing to do. As some would say, a da'ie performs da'wah like a da'ie, a muezzin performs da'wah through his own way, and ditto for an ustaz.

And this is one of the more balanced rebuttal of the idea.
